Location

The Kawo2 dorm (Kastanienweg 21-35) is located near the centre of Aachen.

By foot the train station and the university sports center could be reached in 15 minutes. The university main building and the C.A.R.L. is only 20 minutes away, as well as the Mensa Academica and almost Pontstraße.
Various bus lines from “Kastanienweg” and “Auf der Hörn” take you there without having to walk too much.

To Campus Melaten Nord with the physics and many institutes can be reached even faster, also the computer science center, within some minutes.
Campus Melaten Süd with Uniklinik is also not far.

Housing

• 347 shared flat rooms (partly furnished), circa 16 m², in flats with from two to five rooms with kitchen, bath room and WC in the flat (5 are wheelchair accessible)
• 53 apartments (partly furnished), circa 19 m², with kitchenette and shower/WC

The rooms are very different, there are approx. 15 variants of the shared flat rooms and similar for the apartments, that’s why no layouts of typical rooms or shared flats could be provided.

There are two washing rooms of the Studierendenwerk, where washing and drying is paid with the credit of BlueCard or FH-Karte.

free time

In the courtyard is a barbecue grill. Folding tables and benches could be lend as member on the association.
There is a large lawn with a small vegetable garden directly at the yard. A hut for barbecue should follow.

On Tuesdays, the K2-Bar opens.

There is fitness room (currently closed for renovation) with some equipment. More equipment especially for outside use (like various ball games and slackline) are lended by the association on request.

every day shopping

The next shopping facilities are in the direction of the centre of Aachen Aachen and therefor reachable by bus within some minutes.
For drinks there is a vending machine in the basement of house 5. A machine for snacks should follow in the future. Other drinks have not to be carried far, because of a beverage market less than 100 meters away.
The new kiosk in the Kawo3 is a new supply for food and general really near.

Occupation committee (BA)

The BA supports the Studierendenwerk on the occupation of new residents by survey and arranging of meetings. For Applications only the Bewerbersystem of the Studierendenwerks is used. You can still contact the BA on the following matters:

• general information on the process of application,
• information on the process of moving out, but they do not accept terminations of the rental contract! These should be send to the Studierendenwerk directly!
• the process of search of new room mates,
• application on subtenancy (Untermiete),
• application on your rental period (Wohnzeitunterbrechung),
• and of course suggestions on improvements

The waiting time could be very different depending on our wishes and other reasons. For apartments you must be prepared to wait one year. (The waiting time is depending i. e. on the wished moving in date. At the beginning of the semester many people like to move in.)
